Students at the Cross

Student Ministry Overview

The student ministry of Church at the cross exists to help students and their families encounter Jesus. We believe that students and their families will begin to experience renewal in Jesus as they begin to order their everyday lives around Jesus and His mission.

About

In our student ministry, we seek to develop in 6th-12th grade students a strong gospel foundation through continual exposure to the bible in the context of gospel communities. We believe a strong gospel foundation is built by relationships with other students, parents, and adult volunteers. Living in a post-Christian society, this is just the kind of foundation that our students need to encounter Jesus, and then become agents of renewal in the world they live in.

Parents

The vision of our student ministry is to help students and their families encounter Jesus. We are under the conviction that the frontline to the discipleship of students is the family. As we make disciples, we do so as reinforcement to the family. We also understand that as we seek renewal for students and their families, the ideal is not always reality. Teenagers are not always easy. We want to be the parent’s greatest ally in the discipleship of their students. We are excited to help equip parents in the discipleship of their student. Please email Student Minister James Sercey at james@churchatthecross.com to talk further about the spiritual formation of your student.

Middle School

Student Life Groups

Sunday 10:45am | The Hangar

Every Sunday at 10:45am in the Hangar we have Student Life Groups. Student Life Groups are designed with the student in mind. They are age/gender based small groups that are led by adult volunteers who love students and want to help them in their relationship with Jesus. Students can expect a welcoming environment where they can be themselves, dive into the bible, and be known by God’s people. Students are encouraged to attend the 9am worship gathering in the auditorium, and then head back to the Hangar at 10:45am for Student Life Groups. We use The Gospel Project for Students as our Student Life Group Curriculum. You can learn more about The Gospel Project for Students here.

EMERGE

Wednesday Nights | 6:30-8:00pm | The Hangar

EMERGE is a student worship gathering catered directly for 6th-8th grade students. It is held every Wednesday night from 6:30-8pm in The Hangar. Middle school students can expect a fun, safe environment where they can come alongside their friends to worship God and hear from God’s word. EMERGE means to “come up out of.” Literally, we are viewing EMERGE as a place were middle school students will begin to come up out of their childhood and begin to be developed into students who are ready to take up the call God has placed on their lives to know Christ and make him known.

ARISE

2ND SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH | 6:30-8:00PM | THE HANGAR

Arise is our student worship gathering for 9th-12th graders held on the second Sunday of every month from 6:30-8:00pm in the Hangar. High School student can expect a time of worship alongside their friends and the preaching of God’s word. ARISE means to “come into being.” Our prayer is that high school students will see the call upon their lives to know Christ and to make him known and will begin to actually live in this calling.

Discipleship Groups

Weekly | Time and location vary between Groups

At Church at the Cross, we believe that God has designed the family in such a way that parents take on the primary role in the discipleship and spiritual maturation of their students (Duet. 6:4-9; Ps. 78:2-7). By God’s design the infrastructure for faith replication is the family. Understanding this, we want to come alongside the parent and support the work they are already doing or would like to do. One of the ways we seek to support parents in the discipleship of their students is with Discipleship Groups. DGs are relationally driven, intentional groups of students paired with qualified adults to study the scriptures, pray, and remain accountable. DGs meet weekly at a location and time that best suits the group. Our hope is not that DGs would eclipse the parent’s responsibility to disciple their student, but that it would be an avenue of support. If you are interested in getting your high school student involved in a DG, or would like more information on leading a DG, please contact James Sercey at james@churchatthecross.com.

Want to Serve?

The student ministry here at Church at the Cross is not about any one person except for Jesus. As a matter of fact, we understand that if we are really going to reach and disciple students, it is going to be on the backs of a whole team of parents and volunteers. If you have a burden to reach and disciple students, we would absolutely love to have you join our team as a volunteer! There are multiple ways to volunteer and we would love to discuss how you best fit on the team. To get started, follow this link, and we will be in contact soon!
