SHORT-TERM TRIPS FAQs

  • Yes.  Generally speaking, we organize 1-2 pre-trip meetings for shorter (1-2 week) domestic trips followed by one post-trip meeting.  For longer international trips, we organize 3-4 pre-trip meetings with one post-trip meeting.  All team members are expected to attend.

  • While we aspire to mobilize as many people as possible at Church at the Cross. We also want to ensure that we are doing so in a responsible manner.  We especially intend to serve our long-term mission partners well by sending our people on short-term trips. Therefore, we believe that the Covenant Membership process provides a helpful filter so that we can be confident that those we send on trips are going to be a help and not a hurt to our partners around the globe.

  • No.  While we rarely have to deny an application of a prospective team member, we do reserve the right to do so.  Our passion is to serve our long-term partners in a kingdom-building manner.  At times, we might have to reject an application to a specific trip for this purpose.

  • Yes and yes.  We do ask for a $200 deposit to apply for most of our trips.  In the event that a team member is unable to attend, the deposit will be refunded.  If a team member is denied their application, the deposit will be refunded as well.

  • While some people are able to pay for a short-term mission trip out of their own personal funds, many enlist the fundraising support of family and friends.

  • If the trip you are interested in applying for is not to Mexico, Canada, or a U.S. state or territory – yes you will need a passport.  You can get full details on applying for a U.S. passport online.

If you already have a passport, it is very important that you ensure that your passport does not expire within six months of your scheduled return trip home.

  •  If we are able to facilitate this, we will.  This is obviously based on many factors, so we cannot guarantee that this will be feasible.

  • The cost of a passport and any required/recommended vaccinations are costs assumed by you as the team member.  A passport is typically required for any international travel.  The cost for applying is roughly $145.
